Horror as man sexually assaults five women in an hour | World | News
A man has been jailed after assaulting five different women in less than an hour. Police described Abdelkarim Arfaoui, 27, as a “dangerous sexual predator”. He was convicted following a Royal Court trial in Jersey on Wednesday. Body-worn video shows the moment officers arrested Arfaoui on Tunnel Street, minutes after the first reports were made. Officers say the first victim contacted police at 7.06am, with a second report following shortly afterwards. Police then identified and arrested Arfaoui. “As the investigation progressed, further victims and witnesses came forward, helping detectives build the case that has now resulted in convictions on every count,” the States of Jersey Police said.
It added that reports of sexual offences have increased over recent years, and “reporting confidence plays an important role in those figures”. “This case demonstrates exactly why we encourage victims, witnesses and anyone concerned about suspicious or predatory behaviour to come forward,” the force said.
“A single phone call can make a significant difference.
“Sexual violence has no place in our Island community. We will continue to work tirelessly to protect victims, pursue offenders and bring those responsible to justice.
“Thank you to everyone who came forward and assisted this investigation.
“We would urge anyone who has been the victim of a sexual offence to report it to police or seek support through the Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Dewberry House. Support is available, and you will be listened to.”
“Today’s verdict is a testament to the bravery and courage of the five women who came forward and supported this investigation,” Detective Constable Jack Maguire said, according to the BBC.
“It is because of their evidence that a dangerous sexual predator has been convicted.”
He added: “Even information that may appear insignificant can prove crucial in protecting others, identifying offenders and supporting investigations.”
