Menzies was leading 2-1 at the time of the stoppage and was supported by the match officials, while Smith also came to his aid. He received medical attention after coming off the stage and the PDC confirmed that he had experienced high blood pressure. After being checked over, Menzies was deemed well enough to return to his accommodation.

Now, the 37-year-old has revealed that he is feeling much better while thanking fans who had reached out on social media.

Writing on Facebook, he said: “Thanks to everyone who’s checked in and sent messages. I’m okay.”

The match was ultimately abandoned, with Smith progressing to the quarter-finals where he will face Gerwyn Price.

Afterwards, Sky Sports pundit Glen Durrant said: “I echo the thoughts of everybody. Right now, it’s all about Cameron Menzies. He’s in tip-top form at the moment. It’s a real tough one to take.”

Smith went on to send a heartfelt message to Menzies on social media, writing: “So glad my good friend @CameronMenzies is OK. Health comes before anything. You will come back stronger than ever love ya mate.”

The incident came just days after the Scot defeated Luke Humphries in the opening round, a win he described as the biggest of his entire career.

“I don’t know how to explain that [victory],” said Menzies. “I did believe in my heart that I could maybe cause an upset but I would have to play it out of my skin.

“I wouldn’t say I played it out of my skin, but I played really well. I did say before the game started, to beat Luke, I need to take every chance that he gives me.

“It’s not like Luke to give a lot of chances away, but obviously I’m going to take it. A lot went in. I was happy. I stole a few legs to win, but it’s made the best moment of my darts career.”
