Payments of £112.80 for households in Scotland claiming Scottish Child Payment have been confirmed for Monday, August 3.

The payments are due to be issued to claimants as normal, despite August 3 being a bank holiday in Scotland. The summer bank holiday is observed at different times depending on where you live in the UK, with Scotland observing the day at the start of the month while England, Wales and Northern Ireland observe it right at the end on Monday, August 30. The summer bank holiday always falls just befre schools return for the new academic year, with Scottish schools returning in mid-August unlike the rest of the UK which generally return in September.

When bank holidays coincide with benefit payment dates it can often mean that payments are disrupted, with claimants instead being paid earlier than normal. But while the summer bank holiday in Scotland will give Scots an extra long weekend to kick off August, it won’t cause disruption to some payments – including Scottish Child Payment.

Social Security Scotland confirmed to the Express that while Monday, August 3, is a summer bank holiday in Scotland, Scottish Child Payments will not be affected by this and will be paid as normal.

Scottish Child Payments can be claimed by low-income families with children under the age of 16. For each child, claimants can get £28.20 per week and as the benefit is paid every four weeks, it means households will get £112.80 in every four-week period for each child that is eligible.

There’s no limit on the number of children in a family who can get the payment, so eligible households with more than one child under 16 will get even more.

The application date for Scottish Child Payment will set the pay day for payments to be received, so households that are expecting a payment on Monday, August 3, will receive it as normal, with no disruption due to the bank holiday.
