Last chance to stream one of the best films of the 21st century on Amazon Prime | Films | Entertainment

Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the greatest living directors today and he repeatedly has confirmed that The Master is his favourite of his films. Ranked 24th in the BBC’s 100 Greatest Films of the 21st Century, this psychological drama stars Joaquin Phoenix as a World War 2 Navy veteran who’s struggling to readapt to society after the conflict.

That is, until he meets Philip Seymour Hoffman’s cult leader, based on Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard, who invites him into his movement known as The Cause. And it’s not long before Phoenix’s character is travelling with him and spreading his teachings.

The 2012 movie was shot almost entirely on 65mm, making it the first fictional film to be shot and released in 70mm since 1996’s Hamlet. It received three Oscar nominations for the two acting leads and Amy Adams in the Best Supporting Actress category.

The Master is streaming on Amazon Prime UK until midnight tonight.
