A woman was allegedly gang raped with the attack filmed and shared with others. Police confirmed two suspects have been arrested following the reported attack.
It’s reported the woman was out with a male friend when they were confronted by two unknown men. They allegedly harassed the pair before assaulting them. The woman was then allegedly gang raped with the attack recorded on video. Police said the footage was then sent to other people.
As reported by Kashmir Life, the attack took place in the city of Baramulla in the northern part of the Kashmir Valley in India. Local police said two men, identifed as Shakir Ahmed Lone and Mohammed Ashraf, were arrested on Monday (July 27).
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, Gurinderpal Singh, said the alleged attack took place on July 25. The woman quickly reported what had happened to police before an investigation was launched.
She reported being harassed by two men before being assaulted and raped. They fled the scene before allegedly sharing footage of the attack to other people.
Two suspects have now been arrested and remain in police custody. Detectives are continuing to investigate the reported attack through the examination of forensic evidence and witness reports.
Police have not shared any other details as the investigation remains ongoing. The ages of the two men are also yet to be released.
The city of Baramulla is located on the banks of the Jhelum River in the Indian territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It has a population of just over one million people.
