The US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has been evacuated due to a reported bomb threat. A huge police presence has been set up around the perimeter of the diplomatic area in the Palermo neighbourhood of the Argentine capital.
A message from the US Embassy in Argentina later said the threat “was ruled out following a thorough investigation,” and added “all staff are safe”.
Sources from the City Police told local media that staff at the embassy received a phone call in which an anonymous person said: “There is a bomb outside the embassy. For this reason, the Argentine Federal Police are working at the scene.”
Argentina’s Federal Police then confirmed that “the threat was made by phone call,” and “there was a preventive evacuation” while the Explosives Unit of the PFA Fire Department continued to work at the scene.
The full message, shared on X by the official account of the embassy, read: “The embassy received a bomb threat today, which was ruled out following a thorough investigation. All staff are safe. We deeply appreciate the swift intervention and professionalism of the Argentine Federal Police and the Buenos Aires City Police, whose response enabled the situation to be resolved safely.”
Another police spokesperson previously added that “the Explosives Brigade has been deployed to the scene. The street has been closed off and the brigade is carrying out the necessary procedures around the perimeter of the diplomatic headquarters.”
