Everton transfer news: Leeds talks opened over Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra deals | Football | Sport
Everton have reopened talks with Leeds over a potential deal for Wilfried Gnonto but they’re also exploring the possibility of landing Luis Sinisterra from the Whites on transfer deadline day in case a move for the Italian fails to bear fruit. The Toffees have had widespread interest in several Leeds players this summer and also considered a swoop for midfielder Tyler Adams before his transfer to Bournemouth.
Now they look as though they’re ready to do business in the final hours of the window and there is hope Leeds soften their position on the sale of Gnonto.
Leeds are believed to have seen multiple bids rejected for the former FC Zurich forward, who recently retracted his formal transfer request before being reintegrated into Daniel Farke’s squad.
But internally, all parties are aware that Gnonto still wants to move – ideally back to the Premier League – having also attracted interest from Freiburg and Inter Milan in previous months.
Gnonto’s representatives remain at the heart of the action but the Italy international attacker is unlikely to make another big push to depart Elland Road where he is already on thin ice with supporters.
If Everton, who have already signed Jack Harrison from Leeds this summer, cannot strike a deal for the 19-year-old, they could instead pursue the signing of Sinisterra either on loan or on a permanent deal.
Interestingly, Everton are also admirers of Crysencio Summerville who is another player that could potentially be on the move on deadline day.
Burnley have seen a £20million bid rejected for the Dutchman but he currently looks likely to stay in Yorkshire with the Whites.
Meanwhile, Sinisterra has also pushed for a transfer this summer and he was removed from Farke’s squad for two matches before returning with a bang in the 4-3 win at Ipswich.
Other clubs from across Europe including Nice have also looked at the Colombian but Everton are now considered frontrunners for the 24-year-old and a transfer could yet materialise.
Leeds have been eyeing up several wingers in anticipation that Gnonto or Sinisterra could be the subject of late interest from the Premier League and beyond.
The Whites could be among the most active clubs on deadline day as they continue to push for Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.
The Hoops have already rejected one bid from Leeds worth in the region of £10m.
Everton are looking for replacements for Demarai Gray and Alex Iwobi, who are both believed to be on the move.
Gray is in talks over a switch to Lille after his move Al-Shabab collapsed while Iwobi looks poised to complete a permanent switch to Fulham.
Iwobi is in the final year of his Everton contract and has failed to reach an agreement over a new deal.
Now he could reunite with Marco Silva, who he previously worked with at Goodison Park.
West Ham winger Maxwel Cornet is a loan option if moves for Gnonto and Sinisterra do not materialise.
