Aldi creating 1,100 jobs as it gears up to open 40 new stores
Aldi is poised for significant expansion, with proposals to launch 40 new stores. The discount supermarket intends to generate 1,100 new positions as part of this growth.
The retailer is committing over £370million towards opening new UK outlets. The fresh roles will encompass both full-time and part-time opportunities, ranging from shop floor assistants to cleaning staff and store managers. Aldi presently operates more than 1,080 stores nationwide and aims to expand further.
The supermarket has consistently grown its physical presence whilst competing with rival chains.
Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, stated that the proposals will deliver opportunities for individuals across the UK.
She said: “We want to encourage more people across the UK to consider a career in retail, starting with high-quality training and development that gives people the skills and confidence to succeed. As we open more stores, we’re creating more opportunities for people to start to build rewarding careers with Aldi.
“With market-leading pay, clear progression routes and ongoing support, we’re helping more people grow in retail while bringing Aldi’s award-winning, affordable products to more local communities.”
Only last month, Aldi revealed another wage increase for its workforce. The hourly rate for its shop assistants will climb to £13.50 nationally and £14.88 within the M25 from April 1.

At the year’s commencement, Aldi revealed plans to boost staff wages in March 2026. Aldi employs over 45,000 individuals throughout the UK.

“We’ve invested over £42million in colleague pay this year because we know that every single member of Team Aldi is fundamental to our success and deserve nothing less.”
Aldi asserted it now holds the title of the “highest paying supermarket” in the UK.
Lidl had been poised to claim the top-paying supermarket spot as it had raised employee wages to £13.45 per hour nationally and £14.80 in London this month.
