American who moved to UK stunned by 1 colour she sees everywhere | World | News

An American woman has revealed her biggest surprise since moving from Florida to London which she was never told about prior to arriving. Melissa Mendez has documented her cross the Atlantic journey and the array of differences she has encountered ever since swapping the US for Britain. But the biggest aspect when it came to living in England came down to the UK’s landscape saying on TikTok how “nobody warned” her just what a stark comparison it was to the US.

“I’m going to get a lot of hate for this” she began the video, “but one of the things I had no idea about when moving from Florida to London is how green England is”. The TikToker elaborated how green was most certainly the colour of England, adding how it even inspires one to have more of a green-finger with a host of commentators offering up the greenest of all spots in the UK.

Discussing her slight naivety when it came to not knowing just how many green rolling hills the UK is home to, Mendez said: “Obviously I had never been to England, but I did study my whole life in a British school – it was literally called ‘The British School’.”

She went on to explain how she had previously studied many aspects regarding British culture and history, however adding that she was never taught just “how green” the country truly is.

For Mendez the colour green all around the UK came as her biggest impact since moving here further elaborating how this has impacted even her daily habits.

“Now I’m into gardening and I am just in shock at how beautiful things grow here.

“Everything is just so easy to plant and it actually grows – in Florida nothing grows unless it’s a local plant, herb or tree or whatever.”

Despite England being home to a significant amount of green space, it is not known being the most green landscapes in the world and is actually considered one of the most nature-depleted countries in Europe

But for Mendez, the UK is ideal for plant life, adding how she now has an “unbelievable” garden and that she “can’t believe I now have a green thumb”.

She also added how the UK weather is ideal for gardening compared to the “unforgiving” native US state she came from, saying: “It’s hot, but rainy and sometimes windy so it’s really harsh conditions for beautiful flowers and trees to grow.

“I remember back in Florida I would always dream of having a garden – this has been my dream for so long.”

Her video caused a host of comments from Brits serving up their best spots in the UK for the greenest of views with one recommending the ultimate “mystical place”.

The user commented: “Go to Savernake Forest, some of the oldest English oaks in the country there,” with another saying: “Please visit the north”.

The TikTok user added: “The North of England has so many lovely countryside areas. The Lake District is also beautiful.”

With another commenting: “You need to visit Cumbria, the greens will amaze you. Also, you need to experience a cloud inversion.”
