Andy Murray sends Djokovic, Federer and Nadal invitation as rivals ‘never had friendship’ | Tennis | Sport

Andy Murray has shared his wish to play golf with his old rivals, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Dubbed the ‘Big Four’, they spent years battling for the biggest titles on the greatest stages and had an 18-year stronghold on the world No. 1 ranking, something Murray says meant they could never have a friendship.

Now, the three-time Major winner wants to challenge them in another sport. Since retiring from professional tennis at last summer’s Olympics, Murray has spent countless hours on the golf course in his quest to get down to a scratch handicap, and he’s ready to take on his old rivals in a round.

The 38-year-old has already entered some pro-am tournaments and made his debut at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this week, where he extended an invitation to play with Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.

“I would love to play golf with Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. They all really love their golf, they’re people that I’ve spent a lot of time competing with and quite intensely for a number of years,” he told Dunhill Links.

“Always got on well with them but never had much of a friendship with them. But really since we’ve kind of finished playing and we’ve stopped, we’ve all got I think closer with one another.

“I would love to get the chance to play with them and chat about what life was like as tennis players, and that sort of stuff on the golf course would be fun.”

“I have to say, he beat me so I just – yeah. We are playing in his home so it would be really bad for him, you know, if I beat him so I let him win once. But yeah, I lost against him as a player, as a coach, on the golf course, so I’m not going to play against him any more!” he joked.

While Murray has yet to get on the course with Djokovic, Federer or Nadal, he spent plenty of time with Djokovic earlier in the season when he started coaching his old rival. Murray joined the 24-time Major winner’s team at the end of 2024 and joined him at tournaments like the Australian Open and Indian Wells before they parted ways in May.

Federer and Nadal have also played golf together in Mallorca, sharing some snaps from their round earlier this summer. Now all that’s left to do is get all four of them on a golf course together.
