Angry Oliver Glasner could quit Crystal Palace now as Man Utd on alert | Football | Sport

It was the latest incident of a miserable week for Palace, who suffered one of the worst FA Cup upsets in history to non-league Macclesfield last weekend. Matters got even worse when they slipped to yet another loss against Sunderland, despite taking the lead during the contest at the Stadium of Light.

Not holding back during his post-match interview after the defeat, Glasner took aim at the Palace board, stating he felt let down by the club’s hierarchy. The angry Austrian told Sky Sports: “The players gave everything they could, look at the bench just kids. We feel we’re being abandoned, selling our captain one day before a game. No understanding of this. Yesterday I got told at 10:30am he’s [Guehi] being sold, why not next week? It makes me really upset.”

Glasner went on to reference that this was the second time it’s happened this season, comparing it to Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal. He added: “If you heart gets torn out twice a year, with Eze one day before a game in summer. Now your captain one day before a game. I have no understanding. I’ve been in football almost 30 years, I’ve never experienced this once and now it happens twice in six or seven months. I think this is just where we are now.”

Guehi is expected to undergo a medical at City on Sunday ahead of a reported £20million move – £15m less than Palace were set to receive for the English international from Liverpool in the summer.

The ex-Eintracht Frankfurt boss continued: “Yesterday at 10:30am I heard that the first time we were selling Marc. We have to deal with it, one day before a game going to Sunderland. We know we aren’t in the best of runs, we don’t have players available and we’re selling our captain. Completely no understanding. No team would do this. I’ve seen other teams, players play and the next day they’re leaving. But we’re selling the day before?”

Glasner was later quizzed on whether the issues at the club could force him out before the end of the season, with the 51-year-old keeping his cards close to his chest. He replied: “I don’t know. I have huge appreciation for this group of players, their character is exceptional. We will stick together and get this turnaround, these players deserve Oliver Glasner as their manager. It would help if we had a little bit of support.”
