Arsenal could sanction more than five January transfers to beat Man City to title | Football | Sport
Arsenal have a real chance of winning their first Premier League title in 23 years, but will need all the help they can get to push themselves over the line. The north Londoners have enjoyed a strong first half of the campaign and currently lie six points ahead of their closest challengers Manchester City. However, there is still plenty of time for the Gunners to throw their lead away.
A productive January window would go a long way to helping Arsenal maintain their advantage and finally secure Premier League glory. A number of big names have already been linked with potential moves and there is still ample opportunity for signings to be made. Several players could also leave the Emirates Stadium before the window slams shut at the start of next month.
Express Sport takes a look at six deals that could be done over the coming weeks…
Potential signings
Bradley Barcola
The signing of Barcola would be a real statement of intent and a message to the rest of the Premier League that Arsenal are here to take over, not take part.
The winger excelled for PSG last season but has only started nine league games this season, paving the way for a January transfer. Arsenal are thought to be interested in his signature but it would reportedly take more than £60million to finalise a deal.
Tino Livramento
Livramento is another player to have been linked with Arsenal in recent weeks. He would provide quality cover for Jurrien Timber and a fast start to life at the Emirates Stadium would give him every chance of making the right-back position his own.
However, it seems unlikely that Newcastle would be prepared to sell the 23-year-old in the middle of the season unless Arsenal are willing to make it worth their while.
Marc Guehi
The signing of Guehi would be a dream scenario for Arsenal for not one, but two reasons. Firstly, they would be getting a top-class defender with the ability to battle Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba for a starting spot.
Secondly, they would be stopping the likes of City and Liverpool from getting their hands on him while strengthening their own squad. It would be a win-win scenario for the Gunners, but only time will tell whether Guehi will get himself a move this month.
Potential exits
Ben White
If the north Londoners manage to sign Livramento, it would allow them to move the former England defender onto pastures new.
He is no longer an indispensable asset for Arsenal and remains prone to injuries. Livramento would be an upgrade on the 28-year-old, while he might relish the opportunity to play a starring role elsewhere.
Ethan Nwaneri
The youngster has been tipped to leave on loan in order to gain regular minutes, which seems like the best course of action in terms of his development.
Bournemouth are said to be considering a swoop for Nwaneri as a replacement for Antoine Semenyo and it could be a move to suit all parties.
Myles Lewis-Skelly
It’s a similar story with Lewis-Skelly, who has found himself taking up a bit-part role for Arsenal this season with Riccardo Calafiori the nailed-on starter at left-back.
A loan switch to another Premier League club would get minutes under his belt and boost his chances of making the England squad for this summer’s World Cup. Upon his return to Arsenal, he would be a better player as a result of getting more action.
