‘Best of all time’ horror masterpiece now available to stream for free | Films | Entertainment

A bone-chilling neo-Western, described as one of the most anticipated horror releases of this decade, is now available to stream for free in the UK.

From the mind of Jordan Peele, who won an Academy Award for his first horror venture, Get Out (2017), Nope (2022) was billed as one of the eagerly awaited directorial follow-ups in recent years and did not fail to deliver.

This sci-fi horror focuses on the two Haywood siblings, OJ, played by Daniel Kaluuya, and Emerald, portrayed by Keke Palmer, as the pair discover something sinister haunts the skies above their California horse ranch.

Director Peele, an established U.S. comedian known for his sketches alongside comedy partner Keegan-Michael Key before directing horror flicks, has been praised by critics and general audiences for his metaphor for humanity’s exploitation of nature, as seen in Nope.

The Haywoods discover that the owners of a nearby theme park are profiting from the otherworldly presence above them, leading to one of the most original depictions of alien life in Hollywood, Jean Jacket.

Nope is now available to stream on Channel 4’s online platform for free until late September to anyone with a registered account.

Peele listed fantasy and suspenseful classics such as King Kong (1933), Jurassic Park (1993), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), Jaws (1975), Signs (2002), and The Wizard of Oz (1939) as inspirations for Nope, which was nominated for dozens of awards and picked up wins in categories for its score, best horror and the performance of Keke Palmer.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer scores the movie at 83% from just under 500 reviews, with reviewers such as Vinland Y commenting on the platform that they “Loved every second of this movie. Going in, I was expecting a typical alien flick, but what a surprise when I saw that it was anything but typical. Jordan Peele just gets it.”

Another five-star review, left by verified reviewer Laura, hailed Nope as “one of the best horror films of all time,” adding “Jordan Peele should be given an infinite amount of money every time he says he wants to make another movie.”

After the success of Get Out and Us (2019), Nope puts Peele at three-for-three in terms of horror directorial successes, though he is yet to return to behind the camera for a fourth effort.

In the same year as Nope was released, Peele produced and co-wrote the gothic stop-motion animated comedy horror film Wendell & Wild before producing Dev Patel’s thriller Monkey Man.

This year will see him also produce the upcoming sports horror release Him (2025), starring Marlon Wayans and Tyriq Withers. Reports indicate that Peele’s fourth film as a director will now debut in late 2026 after multiple pushbacks, with virtually nothing known about the project.
