Blackpool fan dies after League One match halted for 30 minutes | Football | Sport

Blackpool FC have confirmed that a supporter passed away following a medical emergency at Bloomfield Road on Saturday. The Seasiders’ 3-1 victory over Peterborough United was suspended for 30 minutes during the second half, as emergency personnel worked to assist a fan in the stands.

Despite their utmost efforts, the club announced on Sunday that the supporter – now identified as Graham Sharman – had tragically died. A statement released by the club read: “Blackpool Football Club is deeply saddened to report the news of the passing of supporter Graham Sharman.

“Graham suffered a medical emergency in the second half of Saturday’s match at Bloomfield Road. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Graham sadly passed away.

“The Club have been in contact with his family and will remain in close communication to offer any support that is needed. The thoughts and condolences of everyone go out to Graham’s family and all of those connected at this time. Rest in peace, Graham.”

Several fellow clubs were equally swift to pay their respects to Graham online. AFC Fylde wrote: “Devastating news. Our thoughts are with Graham’s friends and family, along with everyone at Blackpool FC.”

Peterborough United, meanwhile, added: “The football club are saddened to hear this news and our thoughts are with Graham’s friends and family at this incredibly sad time.” Fleetwood Town also said: “The thoughts of everyone at Fleetwood Town are with Graham’s family and friends at this difficult time.”

Blackpool claimed a 3-1 victory over Peterborough United in Saturday’s League One encounter, despite Fraser Horsfall’s late dismissal.

Dale Taylor broke the deadlock for the Tangerines just three minutes in, before Brandon Khela levelled proceedings midway through the opening half.

Tom Bloxham restored his side’s advantage only four minutes after the interval, before Taylor completed his brace with approximately eight minutes remaining.

Horsfall was subsequently shown his marching orders a minute later, leaving Blackpool down to 10 men, yet the hosts held firm to preserve their two-goal advantage and secure all three points.

The triumph sees Blackpool climb to 18th in the League One table, sitting a comfortable 14 points above the relegation zone.
