Brentford ‘irritated’ by Man Utd as Bryan Mbeumo transfer takes sour turn | Football | Sport
Brentford have reportedly been left ‘irritated’ by the public nature of Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo. Earlier this week, it was widely reported that the winger had snubbed interest from a host of Premier League outfits, including Newcastle and Arsenal, in favour of joining the Red Devils.
However, the Telegraph report that the Bees are yet to receive any sort of approach from the Red Devils, and they have not even quoted an asking price for the winger either – though it is said to be in the region of £60million.
Claims that Mbeumo has decided to join United have left Brentford feeling ‘irritated’ by how the saga looks set to play out in the public eye, and they may demand a higher fee for the 25-year-old as a result.
The former Troyes star has just one year left on his current contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, but the Bees have the option to extend the deal by a further 12 months. It is also worth noting that there is not a release clause in the contract either.
Brentford have developed a reputation for being tough negotiators in the transfer window, and the growing interest from rivals could see them bank a significant fee for their No. 19 – may that be from United or elsewhere.
Mbeumo will add a significant goal threat to Ruben Amorim’s frontline is he secures his desired move to the Theatre of Dreams, and his versatility could prove a key asset for the Red Devils having enjoyed stints on either wing and as a striker when required this season.
The Red Devils are prioritising a reshuffle of their attacking ranks during the early stages of the transfer window, having already secured the signature of Matheus Cunha from Wolves in a deal worth £62.5m. With Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund both expected to depart – and reportedly being pursued by Inter Milan – further reinforcements in the final third are not being ruled out either.
Amorim’s side were keen to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30m prior to the young English star deciding to join Chelsea, and they remain in the market for a true No. 9. Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have both been linked with moves to Old Trafford previously.
