‘Brilliant’ Netflix detective film with 97% score starring Daniel Craig is a ‘masterpiece’ | Films | Entertainment
Detective films are some of the most popular titles on streaming platforms, but every now and then one stands out more than the rest. Viewers say there is one in particular that does this better than almost anything else on Netflix right now. It stars Daniel Craig, has a huge ensemble cast, and is described as gripping from start to finish.
Fans say it keeps you guessing, plays with classic murder-mystery tropes, and delivers twist after twist without losing the story. It has also built an impressive reputation among critics, holding a 97% score on Rotten Tomatoes. But the biggest praise has come from viewers themselves, who say it is one of the best detective films they have ever watched.
The film in question is Knives Out and those who have already seen it did not hold back in their praise.
One person said: “It’s captivating. I enjoyed every bit of it. The plot was so misleading you will think you’ve got the movie figured out, but out of nowhere another factor comes up.”
Another added: “Probably the best film I have seen. Knives Out is a big crowd pleaser that uses its huge big name cast to full efficiency.
“Just when you think you have the plot figured out, it adds twists upon twists that don’t drag down the story but elevate it.”
A third wrote: “I am a huge fan of murder mystery and I’ve seen a lot of films in the genre.
“There is just one thing to say – it’s phenomenally brilliant with Daniel Craig delivering a captivating performance. It’s as close to a masterpiece as any film will ever come.”
Someone else commented: “Wow, I mean I expected it to be good but wow. This movie has you guessing until the very end and subverts your expectations to the fullest.
“The humor is so good and classy. Overall a must watch, and one of the best movies ever.”
The film was released in 2019 and was written and directed by Rian Johnson.
Craig plays private detective Benoit Blanc, who is hired to investigate the death of a wealthy crime novelist played by Christopher Plummer.
Police believe it was a suicide, but Blanc suspects foul play and slowly uncovers the truth.
The cast includes Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette and LaKeith Stanfield.
It was filmed in Massachusetts, made on a $40 million budget and went on to gross more than $300 million worldwide.
The film was also a big awards contender. It was nominated for three Golden Globes, a BAFTA and an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
It later became the first in a series of three films, followed by Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man, which was released in late 2025.
Knives Out, Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man are all available to stream on Netflix now.
