Bring filthy white socks ‘back to life’ in 20 mins with 2 items – not vinegar

There’s nothing like unwrapping a pair of fresh, white socks, but it seems like you only need to wear them once for them to turn dull and grey – making them look filthy every time you wear them.

No matter how many times you wash them, they just don’t seem to get that brightness they had when you first bought them. But luckily, a woman has tried out a cleaning hack to bring them back to their former glory – and it worked.

Content creator Chantelle Barresi took to TikTok to share the cleaning hack, which she had spotted on the platform herself. Chantelle was getting increasingly frustrated by her dull, grey socks, and wanted to see if it would work – and was left very impressed.

First, Chantelle picked up a tub of Stardrops The Pink Stuff Oxi Poweder Stain Remover. She put all her white socks in a bucket, followed by two scoops of the powder and hot water from the kettle. “I don’t have any words for this expect ‘these were on my feet'”.

The content creator was horrified by the amount of dirt and grime that came out of her socks as they soaked in the water. “If this isn’t a sign to soak your socks, I don’t know what is” she added. After leaving them to soak for 20 minutes she rained the water and lined them all up in the bath before spraying them with Stardrops The Pink Stuff Oxi Stain Remover Spray.

Lastly, Chantelle put them in a normal machine wash. After taking them out, the socks were visibly cleaner, bright and white again. Many were impressed by how effective the two products were.

One commented wrote: “I was going to throw them out. Thank you.” Similarly, someone else wrote: “I was about to throw out my white socks but I’m so trying this!!!!”

Others suggested their own ways of getting white socks bright again, such as using white vinegar. One person said: “Vinegar makes them so bright again.” Another added: “For stuff that still looks dirty I found leaving them for hours (or even overnight) in the oxi clean soak got them looking new.”
