British Airways flight makes emergency landing after ‘crew suffer smoke inhalation’ | World | News

A British Airways flight heading for London had to urgently land in Romania after four people suffered “smoke inhalation”. The flight – BA603 – was travelling from Istanbul with 142 passengers on board at the time.

After landing at Bucharest Henri Coanda International Airport, four people required medical assistance, while the rest were evacuated. Romaina’s Ministry of Health confirmed the “presence of smoke” soon after the plane landed. It said: “Four people are in poor health, possibly being smoke-intoxicated, and are receiving medical assistance on site.” All four are believed to be flight attendants. They are now reportedly receiving medical attention for possible poisoning, according to the Metro.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: “Our crew made the decision to divert as a precaution due to a suspected technical issue.

“The aircraft landed safely and customers disembarked as normal.

“We’re sorry to our customers for the disruption to their journeys and our teams are working to get them on their way again as quickly as possible.”

An investigation has been launched by the airport to determine the cause of the safety issue.

This comes after it was revealed that a Ryanair flight was forced to make an emergency landing as it came within six minutes of “running out of fuel” on October 3. The flight was travelling to Prestwick Airport in Glasgow from the Italian city of Pisa on October 3 when it issued a “fuel Mayday”.

An investigation has been launched following the incident on the flight operated by Malta Air on behalf of Ryanair. Prior to its emergency landing in Manchester, the plane made several unsuccessful attempts to land at Prestwick and Edinburgh airports. Nearly two hours later, it made a safe landing at Manchester.

Upon landing, the plane had only 220kg of fuel left in its tank – just enough for five or six minutes of flying.
