British holidaymaker, 62, dies in Cyprus after being rescued from sea | World | News

A 62-year-old British man holidaying in Cyprus has tragically died in an incident near a resort on the island. Witnesses reported seeing the man swimming in the sea at a beach in the tourist hotspot of Peyia, before he suddenly disappeared from sight.

The beach is reported to be situated in the pristine waters of Coral Bay, on the western side of the Mediterranean island at a popular spot for sun-seekers. Some of whom noticed when a man swimming in the sea vanished from sight.

Sunbathers reportedly rushed to the man’s aid and managed to pull him from the water. After being brought ashore, paramedics performed CPR on the British tourist at the beach before rushing him to a nearby hospital.

At Paphos General Hospital, the Brit was sadly pronounced dead in the Accident and Emergency department. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death, according to local media reports.

Peyia, close to where the tragedy occurred, is a town in the Paphos District of the island that is popular with tourists seeking crystal clear waters and sun-soaked beaches.

Just last month, another individual, aged 87, also tragically lost their life while swimming in Coral Bay, which is near Peyia and known for its rocky headlands dotted with caves.

The man was found floating unconscious in the water, but despite being pulled from the water by holidaymakers, he was later pronounced dead.
