British woman found dead with boyfriend in Thailand hotel room | World | News
A British woman and her boyfriend have died in Thailand after unwittingly consuming a lethal concoction of drugs.
Rebecca Turner, 36, died in a hotel room after taking what she believed to be a line of cocaine with her partner.
But tests have revealed that instead of cocaine, the powder was a cocktail of nine drugs, including painkillers, sleeping pills and anxiety medications.
Rebecca’s heartbroken mother is now urging other visitors to the country to resist the temptation of purchasing from pushy street dealers.
Anita Turner, 64, from Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, said: “My heart is just broken in two — I can’t believe I’ll never see her again.
“Every morning I wake up and see a picture of her and just cry and cry. It’s killing me. The pain of losing a child is indescribable. You can’t imagine such pain until it happens to you.
“There is a massive drug problem out there and you just don’t know what you’re getting or how strong it is. You need to be really careful. It’s really not worth the risk.”
Rebecca, who had previously spent four years in Laos, died in Thailand on March 15, one month before she was due to return home.
CCTV showed Rebecca’s boyfriend Sam, entering the hotel half an hour before Rebecca arrived on the day that they died.
The self-employed gas-engineer and plumber had texted a friend to say that he had purchased cocaine according to Mrs Turner.
The pair are believed to have died at around 1pm and were found by friends who had gone looking for the pair. Sam was found in bed whilst Rebecca was found lying on the floor.
Tests showed that Rebecca had opiates, morphine, codeine, noscapine, benzodiazepine, temazepam, lorazepam, diazepam and monoacetylmorphine in her system at the time of her death.
Mrs Turner said: “So many people are dying and people need to know about this, the road (where Rebecca was staying) is particularly bad. A boy died of the same thing the day before.
“I just want to tap people on the shoulders and tell them: just please don’t take anything.”
A UK inquest into Rebecca’s death is expected to be heard in January.
