Brits’ top Christmas bucket list experiences – from the Northern Lights to NYC

A recent poll has revealed the top festive bucket list items for Brits, which include a white Christmas at home, witnessing the Northern Lights in Norway, and spending Christmas at Disneyland.

The survey of 2,000 adults also found that many dream of ice skating at New York’s Rockefeller Center or attending Midnight Mass at St.Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City.

Other popular experiences include a visit to Lapland and spending Christmas Day on an Australian beach.

According to the poll, most Brits would rather receive an experience than a physical gift for Christmas, with over half saying that experiences will last a lifetime.

One-third of respondents hope to receive a unique experience gift on Christmas Day, such as staying in a special location, while 31% would love to find a luxury afternoon tea under their tree.

A spokesperson for Red Letter Days, who commissioned the research, said: “Christmas bucket lists are becoming an increasingly popular trend as people seek to make their festive season more magical.”

The spokesperson explained that much of these bucket lists stem from a growing desire to experience new traditions and create lasting memories with families and friends.

On average, Brits have five items on their December bucket lists that they are eager to tick off. Half of them look forward to sharing these magical experiences with their partners, while 36% plan to enjoy them with their children. And according to 77% Christmas is the perfect time to do so.

The spokesperson for Red Letter Days added: “There’s been a noticeable shift in the types of gifts people are hoping to receive at Christmas. With more favouring an experience over traditional presents, there’s a growing appeal of giving something which will be truly memorable.”
