A builder has miraculously survived a horrific work accident where a wooden stake impaled his skull. Vitor Soares do Nascimento was installing a roof when a rod fell and hit him on the head.
CT scans show the stake lodged 2.4 inches (6 cm) deep, fracturing his skull above his right eye.
The 28 year old was rushed to a local hospital in Mangaratiba, west of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
However, due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to a larger facility in Duque de Caxias at 3:53 pm yesterday (10 Jul). Astonishingly, he remained conscious and lucid throughout the ordeal.
As reported by NeedToKnow, doctors diagnosed a fronto-facial fracture with bone fragments and a severe brain contusion. He underwent emergency surgery and as of Wednesday night, he was still in the ICU on mechanical ventilation, reports the Daily Star.
