‘Caribbean of Europe’ the perfect holiday spot with ‘£30 flights’ | Travel News | Travel

Craving a taste of the Caribbean without breaking the bank? One parent may have the perfect budget-friendly recommendation for you.

‘The Travel Mum’ previously took to TikTok to share her love for what’s been dubbed the ‘Caribbean of Europe’. Boasting stunning shorelines and vibrant cultural spots, this hidden gem offers a getaway suitable for both children and adults alike.

Even better, she points out that return flights can be snagged for as little as ‘£30’ with certain airlines, though prices may vary by season.”We have been told this is the ‘Caribbean of Europe’, let’s check it out,” The Travel Mum told her 406,000 followers earlier this year.

“Ok, so with the most beautiful crystal clear blue sea, the white sand and even some naughty piggies on the beach, I can see where the Caribbean comparison comes from. We have spent two weeks exploring this beautiful island by car and by boat, and I can honestly say we are in love with this incredible place.

“We have done this road trip with our five-year-old son, our 12-week-old baby and my parents.”

Sardinia is a picturesque island west of the Italian peninsula and just north of Tunisia. It offers an array of spectacular bays and secluded coves and is home to Italy’s sole pink sand beach, Spiaggia Rosa.

If that wasn’t enough, the Italian mainland and Sicily—which houses one of the most active volcanoes in Europe—are easily accessible for day trips. The Travel mum embarked on her journey in July, utilising Avios points to secure £175 British Airways flights for a family of four from London Gatwick to Cagliari.

However, she emphasised the benefits of travelling off-peak for more affordable accommodation and airfare. For example, she reportedly spotted return fares ranging from £30 to £60 for October, mentioning budget carriers such as easyJet and Ryanair.

Currently, Ryanair is advertising last-minute return tickets for early April 2025 between £30 and £51, although these prices are subject to fluctuation.

It’s also worth noting that Sardinia boasts three major airports, with Cagliari Elmas Airport being the largest and most southern. In contrast, both Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport and Alghero Fertilia Airport are situated further north.

The Travel Mum’s holiday itinerary was packed with activities, including four nights in Nora, four in Mori family village, two in Cala Gonone and three in Golfo Aranci. The family then spent one final night in Cagliari before jetting back home the following day.

She revealed that one of the highlights of her trip was a boat tour in La Maddalena, northern Sardinia. The price included lunch and drinks, and the boat wasn’t overly crowded.

According to her holiday blog, the entire trip cost just under £1,800 for a family of four, equating to approximately £128 per day. “Honestly, there has been something for everyone,” she continued on TikTok.

“With some delicious Italian food, a Caribbean-esque coastline and lots of great places to explore, there is no doubt you need to save this post and add Sardinia to your bucket list.”

In the caption, she added: “Preferred it to the Caribbean, to be honest. Don’t want to fight anyone about which is the best, but I have a special place in my heart for Italy.

“The combination of a gorgeous island, white sandy beaches and delicious Italian food is a winner for me.”
