Chelsea were held to a draw by Premier League leaders Arsenal in a scrappy game which saw the Blues reduced in numbers. Moises Caicedo was dismissed before half-time for a reckless challenge which left the referee with little choice but to brandish the red card. It was a moment that came back to haunt Chelsea as they ended up settling for a point at Stamford Bridge.

The hosts drew first blood just minutes into the second half when Trevoh Chalobah rose highest to head home from a corner. Arsenal hit back through Mikel Merino, who weaved his way into the box and scored the equaliser from close range. Both teams huffed and puffed in search of a late winner but were ultimately forced to share the spoils, which wasn’t a bad result for Chelsea given their numerical disadvantage.

Robert Sanchez – 8

Made a big early save to deny Bukayo Saka and got down well to stop Gabriel Martinelli on the brink of half-time. Couldn’t have done much about the equaliser. Pulled off another crucial stop late on.

Malo Gusto – 6

Had a decent game on the right flank, bombing forward to involve himself in attacking moves while helping out in defence.

Wesley Fofana – 5

Lost the run of Merino in the build-up to Arsenal’s equaliser. Did well apart from that but it was a crucial mistake that ended up costing his team.

Trevoh Chalobah – 7

Was left nursing a shiner following a stray elbow but was able to carry on. Ended up scoring the opener with a pinpoint header which looped into the net.

Marc Cucurella – 4

Booked after a series of heavy challenges in the opening exchanges. Struggled against Bukayo Saka and couldn’t stop him in the build-up to Arsenal’s leveller.

Reece James – 7

Had a solid game in the engine room, breaking up play and using his range of passing to move Chelsea forward. Took the corner which led to the opening goal.

Moises Caicedo – 3

Was lucky to avoid being booked after several fouls in the first half. Eventually got himself sent off for a studs-up challenge on Mikel Merino, injuring himself in the process. Let himself and his team-mates down.

Enzo Fernandez – 6

Put in a serious shift and was eager to be in the thick of proceedings at both ends of the pitch. Was lucky to avoid punishment for a needless shove on Cristhian Mosquera before the break.

Pedro Neto – 6

Had a great chance to open the scoring but was denied by a crucial block at the last second. Worked hard to make things happen but didn’t have the impact he would have been hoping for.

Estevao – 6

Looked lively from the first whistle but smashed the ball into orbit when presented with a golden chance to break the deadlock. Created several chances before he was substituted.

Joao Pedro – 6

Led the line well, often peeling wide to bring his attacking team-mates into play. Couldn’t continue after picking up a knock in the second half.
