Clean soap scum from shower screen with 2 items – including vinegar

Soap scum can make your shower look unsightly.

If you’ve got a shower with a glass screen, you’ll know that keeping it clean isn’t always easy. From leftover soap scum and water marks to limescale build-up from hard water, there’s so many things that can build up on your glass.

This means you have to wipe down the screen every time you have a shower, but that’s not always going to be practical – especially if you’re hopping in for a quick wash before you dash off to work.

Thankfully though, one cleaning expert has revealed how to actually clean soap scum off your shower glass in no time at all with just two common household items.

According to one person on TikTok, you can mix two ingredients together and wipe the mixture over the glass with a sponge, and it’ll leave your shower screen “crystal clear”.

The user, who posts under the handle @renovation_44, declared that all you need to do is mix white vinegar with washing up liquid to achieve sparkling clean glass.

The woman combined her mixture into a Dishmatic fillable washing up sponge, which dispenses the liquid as you scrub – allowing her to clean her glass with ease.

She said: “Fill a Dishmatic brush up with equal parts white vinegar and washing up liquid. This will tackle all that built-up soap scum and leave your glass crystal clear.”

Once your screen is covered with the soapy mixture, you can simply rinse it away using your shower head and you should find the glass underneath is sparkling.

And the woman has a hack for tougher stains too. If you find that the soap and vinegar mixture isn’t enough, she recommends pouring some baking soda on top of half a lemon and using the fruit to rub the baking soda and lemon juice into the glass.

She added: “For tougher stains you can use a lemon and baking soda and gently scrub your shower glass in circular motions. Rinse off, and your shower screen should look a little like this.”

You should be careful when using this hack, however, as scrubbing too hard with the baking soda may scratch the glass.

All of the items mentioned in the video are common household items that can be found in most kitchens, or can easily be added to your next weekly shop. If you want to use the trick with a Dishmatic brush, you can pick those up from supermarkets too. Ocado stock the brush for £1.60, while you can also buy it on Amazon for £5.
