Coco Gauff names three favourite tennis players as key goal outlined | Tennis | Sport
Coco Gauff is one of the biggest stars in tennis. She burst onto the scene at Wimbledon at the age of just 15 and has gone on to win two Grand Slam titles at the US Open and French Open. The world No. 3 was recently named the highest-paid female athlete for the third consecutive year, according to Sportico, and has signed a new brand deal with Mercedes.
But Gauff remains a huge fan of the sport at heart, and says she is always watching tennis. The 21-year-old is getting her season underway at the United Cup after helping America lift the trophy last year, and she shared her three favourite players to watch.
The world No. 3’s habit of watching matches could be a good way to scout out her rivals, but Gauff explained that she didn’t want to get ahead of herself – and instead tuned in for fun.
“For me personally, I just look the next match. I always say, you know, you got to win the match before you get there, and then you worry about that later,” she said ahead of the United Cup.
“Tennis is one of those sports that one week can change your season. So a player can be playing like this one week and the next play unbelievable. Yeah, I think for me I just like to look one match in advance. I always watch tennis. I love watching tennis. I’m watching it on a fan standpoint. Not necessarily always scouting.”
Asked who she enjoyed watching, Gauff named three Grand Slam champions on the ATP Tour. “I mean, Jannik [Sinner] and Carlos [Alcaraz] are pretty fun to watch. I like watching Daniil [Medvedev] just because you never know what he’ll do on the court,” Gauff added.
While Gauff likes to take things one match at a time, the American also has big goals for the new season. Already a multi-Grand Slam champion, she now wants to reach the top of the rankings, surpassing Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek.
Sharing her 2026 goals, she said: “I think just consistency. I would like to go deep in all the slams this year. Yeah, obviously I would like to touch No. 1 ranking. That would be pretty cool. But yeah, I think just being consistent throughout the year.”
For now, Gauff is focused on the USA’s title defence at the United Cup. They’ve been drawn in the same group as Argentina and Spain, and the world No. 3 is expected to face Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Solana Sierra in her first two matches of the year.
