Cole Palmer’s one-word Chelsea status as Man Utd linked with transfer | Football | Sport
Chelsea reportedly have no intention of allowing Cole Palmer to leave the club, despite recent links of a potential move to Manchester United. The Blues’ and England star has been a key member of the squad ever since he moved to Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in 2023.
The January transfer window is open, which is already leading to plenty of speculation about what business all 20 Premier League clubs – including Chelsea – may complete.
Liam Rosenior has been at the helm at Chelsea for a few weeks following Enzo Maresca‘s departure, and now the new Blues head coach will be forced to deal with speculation about Palmer’s future.
There have been reports that Man Utd have expressed an interest in signing Palmer from Chelsea, with the February 2 deadline now just over a week away.
However, it seems that Chelsea have no desire to let Palmer leave the club to join their Premier League rivals. The Telegraph have reported that the England international is deemed as an “untouchable” by the Blues, meaning they would not consider an offer from any club regardless of the size of the bid.
Palmer has struggled with his fitness this season, featuring just 13 times for Chelsea across all competitions, including 12 appearances in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old grew up as a fan of the Red Devils, despite progressing through City’s academy before going on to feature for the first-team at the Etihad Stadium.
Rosenior was asked about Palmer’s future at Chelsea amid reports that the playmaker has become “unsettled” at Stamford Bridge, insisting that the England international remains a key member of the squad for the present and the future.
“I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very happy to be here,” Rosenior said earlier this week. “He’s a huge part in our long-term plans.
“My job and the club’s job is to get him into a situation where he can consistently perform to the level he wants to. There was frustration in the Brentford game. We need to look after him and that’s why I didn’t involve him in the last game.”
Chelsea will face Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon (2pm) in the Premier League. It remains to be seen if Palmer will feature after being rested for the win over Pafos in the Champions League in midweek.
