Columbia’s ‘gold standard’ thermal-reflective coats withstand winter

The Met Office has warned of up to 20cm of snow hitting five UK regions as temperatures drop to “just above freezing” in some parts of Scotland and around 5C in southern England.

With the public urged to prepare for the wintry weather, mountaineering brand Columbia’s new range of winter coats is perfect for keeping you warm. The jackets feature the brand’s thermal-reflective Omni-Heat Infinity technology to shield you from the cold.

Originally inspired by NASA’s space blankets, the Omni-Heat Infinity has been branded as the “gold standard in warmth”. This is thanks to the gold dotted lining inside the coat which reflects your body heat without compromising breathability – so you “stay warmer longer”.

The knee-length Womens Longhorn Ridge Puffer Jacket, £210, gives an easy fit for a comfortable range of motion – perfect for a day trip to Winter Wonderland or a walking tour of the Christmas lights in London. The warm insulated puffer jacket with synethetic down comes with a removable hood, a high neck, elasticated cuffs and a hem to block out the cold.

With two side pockets and two extra on the chest, it’s spacious enough to fit your phone and essentials so you don’t need to carry a shoulder bag.

For men, the  Landroamer Hooded Puffer Jacket, £210, is a similar style but with zippered dual-entry hand pockets and also a handy D-ring to keep essentials close while on the move. It’s available in three colours (white, black and khaki) and sizes between small and extra-extra large.

Columbia’s Bulo Point III Hooded Down Puffer Jacket, £270, is a natural down alternative that sits at waist length. With two stylish colour combinations and black velvet sheen options, the jacket is great for urban, street-wear looks. One shopper said: “The black velvet style gives off a fashion vibe than a sport jacket, which I like, but my legs are going to feel cold in this.”

The Mens Oak Harbor II Insulated Waterproof Jacket, £180, is great to wear when it’s foggy and misty in the countryside. Perfect for winter hikes, the jacket is designed to shield you against cold and wet conditions as it features a waterproof and breathable shell, a warm synthetic down filling and a cosy thermal-reflective lining.

For people who always feel cold, you might want to consider the Men’s Omni-Heat Midweight Baselayer Tights, £50 or the women’s pair, here. The second skin-like leggings with thermal-reflective dots help trap your body heat while the ultra-wicking fabric keeps you dry and fresh.

Shoppers can also consider Uniqlo’s HeatTech Collection as a base layer under your sweaters and shirts. They also offer lightweight down jacket including a quilted PufferTech jacket, priced at £69.90.

The North Face is another popular brand for those who are looking for hiking wear or street styles.
