A company associated with The Beatles has reportedly filed for bankruptcy. However, a recent statement has reassured fans that they will use the three-month period prior to the insolvency procedure starting to “consolidate” and “restructure” for a “better future”.
Höfner, a German instrument brand famous for the Violin Bass used by Sir Paul McCartney, has confirmed that it filed for insolvency on Thursday, December 11. McCartney played the iconic Höfner 500/1 Violin Bass, also known as the “Beatle Bass,” throughout the band’s early years. He appreciated its lightweight feel and unique tone, and continues to use similar short-scale basses to this day.
As reported by Guitar World, Höfner, which was founded by Karl Höfner in 1887, issued a statement on social media to clarify the current situation. The company informed fans that it will not be discontinuing products, but will continue to build and sell instruments as it consolidates its financial position.
Höfner said on social media: “Dear musicians, Höfner fans & friends, some of you may have already heard: our company has been going through a difficult period – especially since the introduction of the US tariffs – and filed for insolvency on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
“We would like to clarify a few things: We are not discontinuing production, distribution or our media channels. In Germany, there is a three-month period before the actual insolvency procedure is opened. This period offers the opportunity to consolidate the company and restructure it for a better future.”
The statement added: “Within this period, we will continue to build and sell our instruments and the Höfner team is doing its best to provide you with the support, service and warranties you expect.
“We would like to express our appreciation to all of you who continue to support us even in these difficult.”
In addition to its connections to The Beatles and Sir Paul McCartney, Höfner is recognised worldwide for producing high-quality violins and hollow-body electric guitars. They offer a signature warm and thumpy sound, which makes them ideal for pop, rock, and folk.
