Dan Walker wades into Gabby Logan tragedy as he slams Richard Keys | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV
Gabby Logan had to leave Match of the Day during a live broadcast earlier this week (Wednesday, January 7) for a family emergency, which later emerged as her father’s death. The former gymnast’s father was Leeds United legend Terry Yorath, who passed away at the age of 75 following a short illness, which has left Gabby and her family heartbroken.
The family issued a tribute on Thursday morning, which read: “To most he was a revered footballing hero, but to us he was Dad; a quiet, kind and gentle man. Our hearts are broken, but we take comfort knowing that he will be reunited with our brother, Daniel.” Gabby later issued her own touching tribute to her late dad, writing: “Rest in Peace Dad, our hearts are broken, your love and legacy lives on.”
Following the tragic news, former Sky Sports host Richard Keys shared a tribute on X, which has been deemed insensitive and viewed by almost 10 million users.
He wrote: “Sad to hear the news of Terry Yorath’s passing. He was a warrior & won fans over wherever he played.
“He was great for us at Coventry & the reason I got Gabby a job at Sky. I had no idea who she was when we met, but I knew her dad. RIP Terry. Your daughter did you proud.”
An irked Dan Walker, who now works for Channel 5, was one of the famous faces who lambasted Richard’s choice of words.
Dan wrote: “Richard, just imagine what it would be like for Gabby, or a member of her family, to read this. I’m hoping you have just worded this badly and it isn’t a dig at a really difficult time. There is still time to change it.”
Richard has kept the original post on his X, but later wrote another tweet in response to a wave of backlash in the comments section.
He penned: “What a shame my words for a footballing hero of mine were entirely misinterpreted. Terry Yorath was a fabulous guy. A warrior. My affection for him meant I was more than happy to help him & his family in any way I could. Gabby’s career would make any father proud. RIP Terry.”
