Darts ‘Royal Rumble’ announced after Littler and Humphries endorsement | Other | Sport

MODUS Super Series have announced a Royal Rumble darts addition for 2026 – months after Luke Littler and Luke Humphries endorsed the idea. Speaking before the Premier League Darts Final night back in May, Littler and Humphries – ranked number one and two in the world – were keen on introducing a Royal Rumble-style event.

For those unfamiliar with WWE, Royal Rumble starts with two competitors in the ring, with surprise entrants joining the match at two-minute intervals. Considering the bouyant atmosphere at darts and fans’ fondness for walk-on music, Littler and Humphries felt as though the concept could their spot in their sport.

Littler told SPORTbible: “Phil Taylor might be entry 30, the mighty return.”

Asked about the rules, he continued: “I don’t think you could go above one leg of 501. Straight away, one leg, the loser goes off, and then the next player, they’ll do the walk-on, and so on and so on.”

Humphries was similarly enthusiastic, adding: “I think it’d be good. The thing is, you probably couldn’t rank it or anything because you’d have to make sure you’re not taking too much away from the seriousness of the sport. But I think it would be a good laugh, a good bit of fun. I think the fans would love it as well.”

And now, a version of the Royal Rumble has been confirmed in the darts world for next year, though both Littler and Humphries won’t be able to compete. This is because MODUS Super Series – which is only open to non-PDC Tour Card holders and legends from the sport – have launched the event.

First put to sea in September 2022, MODUS Super Series is an international weekly competition which takes place in a purposed built location in Portsmouth. Fallon Sherrock, Martin Adams, Robert Thornton, Kevin Painter, Mikuru Suzuki and Thibault Tricole among the most well-known names that have competed.

Adrian Lewis is another, with the former two-time world champion, who hasn’t competed in the PDC since April 2023, playing on the MODUS Super Series in 2025. Indeed, ‘Jackpot’ made his return to competitive darts in August, alongside BDO World Champion Steve Beaton representing England in the pairs tournament.

MODUS included Lewis on their announcement graphic, hinting that he could be involved in the Royal Rumble.

While Littler and Humphries won’t be able to compete in the MODUS Royal Rumble due to having a PDC Tour Card, their immediate focus will be on the PDC World Championship.

Both Littler and Humphries are into the third round at Alexandra Palace, after ‘the Nuke’ beat Darius Labanauskas and David Davies, while ‘Cool Hand’ secured wins against Ted Evetts and Paul Lim.

Next up for Littler is Austrian Mensur Suljovic, while Humphries goes up against German Gabriel Clemens.

The action at Ally Pally gets back underway on Saturday afternoon, following a three-day break due to Christmas.
