David Beckham showed his class with gesture to Arsenal star after horror injury | Football | Sport
Aaron Ramsey has revealed that David Beckham gifted him a signed shirt following his shocking leg fracture. The Welsh midfielder suffered a double break in 2010 during a match against Stoke City. In total, he was sidelined for nine months, with Ramsey undergoing an intensive period of rehabilitation.
Over 15 years since his injury, the ex-Arsenal player has revealed that he received a heartfelt gift from England and Manchester United legend Beckham. When asked if he collects shirts, Ramsey responded: “I’ve got a couple of shirts that really mean a lot to me. The one that stands out for me though, is I’ve got a David Beckham shirt personalised when I broke my leg.
“He wrote a lovely message on the back of his shirt, it was a Milan shirt. That’s definitely one that meant a lot and especially going through what I was going through at the time.”
Ramsey eventually made a full recovery and went on to make 369 appearances for Arsenal, scoring 64 goals. He contributed to three FA Cup victories and two Community Shields during his tenure at the Emirates Stadium before joining Juventus on a free transfer.
The playmaker was contracted to Juventus for three seasons ahead of moves to Rangers, Nice, Cardiff City and Pumas UNAM. His contract with the latter was terminated earlier this season.
Speaking at the time, Ramsey said: “I would like to thank the Mexican people for their kindness and generosity and making me and my family feel so welcome in Mexico City.
“I also want to give a big thanks to the manager, the coaching staff and particularly the medical staff for helping me through what was a difficult time with injuries.
“However with their help and a lot of hard work I was ready and match fit for the remaining games and I was looking forward to giving my best to the Pumas. Unfortunately my contract was terminated which was a surprise and obviously disappointing.
“Therefore I had no choice but to come home to Wales. Thank you again for all the support through the time we spent in Mexico. It’s a beautiful place and we will definitely come back to visit soon.”
While he continues his search for a new club, Ramsey has revealed that he is open to pursuing a coaching career.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: “Yes, absolutely. That’s a route that I never thought I’d take, but definitely in the last few years I’ve done my badges, I’m on the Pro (License Course) at the moment.
“It’s something that I really enjoy doing with Cardiff under-18s at the beginning of that and then obviously I took charge of Cardiff for the last three games which was really good, a great experience.
“I went with Wales last week and that’s a real good insight into everything that goes on behind the scenes. The hours and the effort and detail that goes into those things and preparing the boys to go into those things to execute a gameplan. But it’s addictive, so I definitely see myself going into that space.”
