David Brooks becomes a dad for first time four years after Prem star beat cancer | Football | Sport
Bournemouth winger David Brooks has welcomed his first child after wife Flora gave birth last month. The 28-year-old revealed back in June that he and Flora were anticipating their first baby. The Wales international spoke of feeling incredibly fortunate, particularly given his stage 2 Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis four years ago.
Brooks made his football comeback in March 2023 and has become a key player for Bournemouth, assisting the club in cementing their Premier League status whilst pursuing European ambitions. Off the field, Brooks and Flora are blissfully wed, having exchanged vows in North Yorkshire last summer.
Now their family has expanded with the arrival of a baby daughter. Brooks posted an image of Lottie Elizabeth on Instagram this Tuesday. “Our beautiful baby girl born 27/10/25 Lottie Elizabeth Brooks Special addition to our family @florabrooks_ Love you,” he penned in the caption.
Earlier this year, Brooks confessed he worried he might never experience fatherhood, stating: “When I was diagnosed, I had those conversations and there was never any guarantees that I would be able to have children in the future.
“There was a chance that it wouldn’t have been possible. I was really lucky that it’s happened naturally. After the treatment, everything has gone back to normal. I’m really happy
“I always wanted to start a family. My wife and I always wanted kids at some point. My situation took it out of my hands, so it’s very nice that everything has happened naturally and progressed into being a family.
“I’m really looking forward to it and I know my wife is, even though she’s the pregnant one and going through all that. I’m delighted – there were a few tears and now we’re really looking forward to it. We’re still a few months away – but I can’t wait.”
This campaign has seen Brooks feature in 11 matches for Bournemouth, contributing one assist whilst wearing the captain’s armband on multiple occasions.
The Cherries began the season in spectacular fashion but have managed just two victories from their previous seven outings.
Brooks is currently concentrating on Wales’ World Cup qualifying efforts. With two fixtures left to play, there remains a possibility they could claim top spot in Group J and secure automatic qualification.
However, a play-off position appears more realistic, and should Craig Bellamy’s squad defeat Liechtenstein away on Saturday, their home clash with North Macedonia on Tuesday would essentially become a winner-takes-all battle for second place and a play-off spot.
Wales are also hoping other group results favour them, particularly Poland’s outcomes, ensuring they would be amongst the top seeds when March’s play-offs commence.
