Deadpool & Wolverine named ‘best MCU movie ever’ as first reviews drop | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Marvel‘s latest R-rated action extravaganza, Deadpool and Wolverine, made a splash at its New York premiere yesterday, with critics quick to weigh in on the superhero blockbuster.
Starring the formidable duo of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, the film marks the third chapter in the wildly popular Deadpool series.
The Hollywood Reporter has tipped the movie for a colossal opening weekend, forecasting over $165 million in domestic ticket sales, potentially setting a new record for an R-rated debut.
Helmed by director Shawn Levy, who also contributed to the screenplay alongside Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, Deadpool and Wolverine promises high-octane thrills.
Emma Corrin of The Crown fame takes on the role of the film’s chief villain, while Dafne Keen reprises her role as Wolverine’s progeny, Laura, from the 2017 hit Logan, reports the Mirror.
IMDB’s brief outline teases: “Wolverine is recovering from his injuries when he crosses paths with the loudmouth Deadpool. They team up to defeat a common enemy.”
Critics have taken to X, the platform previously known as Twitter, to share their early reviews following a privileged preview.
Matt Neglia, the editor-in-chief of award-centric site Next Best Picture, enthused: “DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE is the shot in the arm the MCU so desperately needed. Vulgar, violent, scathing, and at times, even touching, this R-rated romp holds nothing back delivering on everything its fans want with maximum effort.”(sic)
Joey Magidson of Awards Radar recently shared his review on social media, stating: “Deadpool and Wolverine is so much fun. Marvel absolutely threw me a curveball by making this a tribute to the Fox superheroes, but it plays super well. Funny, gory, and massively satisfying. A blast that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Well done.”
Simultaneously, Hollywood Handle took to social media to express joy, proclaiming: “#DeadpoolAndWolverine is as exciting as you’re expecting it to be. It manages to have the same tone as the previous films with super funny jokes and a story that will have you laughing and crying.”
They further complimented actor Hugh Jackman by saying: “Hugh Jackman delivers one of his best performances as Wolverine and the film is packed with great surprises that thankfully don’t affect the course of the story.”
On a similar note, critic James Preston Poole observed: “DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE feels miraculous. A high energy ode to superhero cinema past that goes beyond nostalgia into kid in a candy store madness, the Ryan Reynolds/Hugh Jackman is everything you wanted and more, despite some grating toilet humor.” (sic)
Wong Updates joined the chorus of praise, posting: “#DeadpoolandWolverine is No Way Home on STEROIDS. It takes elements from Boss Baby and Come and See to create a beautiful love letter to cinema. Shawn Levy is a true auteur putting him in the ranks with Zack Snyder and Wes Anderson. Cinema is back baby!” (sic)
Atom enthused: “Marvel GAMECHANGER! EPIC return. Their chemistry delivers the GREATEST bromance/buddy cop dynamic in film history. Stunning action and hugh loads of gooey fun. Not just another sequel, it’s the BEST MCU movie ever! A fitting end setting up what’s next.” (sic)
Meanwhile, Justin Lawrence from Geekcentric chimed in: “Caught 40 mins of #DeadpoolAndWolverine last week, and it’s not just fan service – it’s a Marvel love letter! Hugh and Ryan are like chimichangas and tequila, the PERFECT combo. This ultimate team-up will have you screaming, ‘LFG!’ Get ready – this movie is going to BLOW YOUR MINDS!” (sic)
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in UK cinemas on 25 July.
