Denmark issues two-word warning to Trump after MAGA threat following Venezuela raid | World | News
Denmark has issued a “hands off” warning to Donald Trump, following his attack on Venezuela and amid fears Greenland could be next in line. Delta force troops stormed the home of Venezuela’s dictator Nicolas Maduro in the early hours of Saturday morning, capturing him and his wife Cilia Flores.
The Venezuelan President is now in custody in the US, where he will stand trial on drugs and weapons charges. In the aftermath of the attack, Trump said the South American country will be ruled by the US for the foreseeable future. The removal of Maduro using force has shocked political leaders across the globe, but delighted his MAGA supporters.
The military operation has renewed fears in Denmark of an American takeover of Greenland, long coveted by the US President.
Those fears were further stoked by a social media post from the wife of Trump’s deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller just hours after the rendition of Maduro.
Katie Miller – a rightwing podcaster – posted on X a map of Greenland draped in the stars and stripes with the caption: “SOON.”
Her provocative post produced a furious reply from the Danish ambassador to the United States.
Jesper Møller Sørensen reposted Miller’s taunt with a “friendly reminder” of the longstanding defence ties between the two countries.
“We are close allies and should continue to work together as such,” he said. “US security is also Greenland’s and Denmark’s security. Greenland is already part of NATO.
“The Kingdom of Denmark and the United States work together to ensure security in the Arctic. The Kingdom of Denmark has significantly boosted its Arctic security efforts – in 2025 alone, we committed USD 13,7 bn that can be used in the Arctic and North Atlantic. Because we take our joint security seriously.
“And yes, we expect full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark.”
Since taking office a year ago, Trump has rattled European allies with his repeated demands for Greenland to be transferred to the US.
He has refused to rule out military action to gain control of the territory at a time when the US, China and Russia are jockeying for power in the Arctic.
Greenland is seen as strategically important for defence and as a future source of mineral wealth.
The island is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark.
