Disaster for Putin’s army as Ukraine wipes out 100 soldiers | World | News
Ukraine’s army recaptured an important village on the Lyman front, wiping out around 100 Russian soldiers and taking dozens of prisoners. The strategic village of Torske is located in the Donetsk region where fierce fighting has been raging for months.
The settlement lies on a key logistical route between Kreminna and Lyman, with control of the area essential for both sides. Ukraine‘s army has been attempting to shore up its eastern front and prevent further Russian tactical gains. Soldiers from Ukraine‘s 425th Skala Separate Assault Regiment launched an attack on the village and were able to drive out the Russians.
Having carried out reconnaissance of Russian positions inside the village, assault troops swept through the settlement, going from house to house as they liberated the territory.
The Russian units were reported to be disorganised and unprepared for the Ukrainian offensive.
“The invaders were holed up in the village with minimal ammunition,” the Skala regiment said. “They were sitting in basements without water or food.”
Many of them fled their positions, while others surrendered in groups. Russian commanders sent in drones to try and stop their soldiers from surrendering, but to no avail.
The Ukrainian regiment added that around 100 Russians were killed in the military operation.
In another section of the Lyman front, units from Ukraine‘s Third Army Corps successfully repelled a Russian attempt to breakthrough to their positions near the village of Stavsky.
A combination of artillery fire and FVP drones managed to destroy a Russian mechanised column, consisting of armoured personnel carriers and a tank.
The Third Army Corps said up to 20 Russian soldiers were killed in the battle.
Ukraine has made a number of gains in the past few days, although Russia‘s army continues to advance in many places.
Earlier this week, Kyiv’s forces retook the village of Kucheriv Yar, about 40 kilometres from the besieged city of Pokrovsk.
The settlement had been captured by Russian forces in mid-August during a breakthrough to Dobropillia.
