Donald Trump hints at saving TikTok and reveals exact date he and Xi J | World | News

Donald Trump has hinted that a deal has been secured to save TikTok as he revealed the date he will meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The US President posted on Truth Social: “The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly.

“A deal was also reached on a “certain” company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!! President DJT”

Chinese and US diplomats have been meeting this week in Madrid to discuss trade and other matters. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, leading the latest round of trade talks with China on behalf of the United States, had said that TikTok was one of the subjects likely to be discussed.

The deadline is looming for the Chinese owner of TikTok to find a buyer or face a ban in America. On multiple occasions Trump has extended a self-imposed deadline to reach a deal with China to sell at least part of its US TikTok business to an American-backed owner.

It comes after US lawmakers claimed the platform poses a national security risks partly because Chinese authorities could force TikTok‘s parent company ByteDance to hand over sensitive data about US citizens, as per The Financial Times.

During this week’s talks, officials are also expected to lay the groundwork for a potential meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping as soon as next month, when they are on track to attend a summit in South Korea.

On Truth Social President Trump said he will be “speaking to President Xi on Friday” adding that their relationship is a “very strong one”.

Trump’s latest post would appear to indicate a thaw in tensions between the two superpowers. This comes despite Trump accusing China, Russia and North Korea only two weeks ago of “conspiring against the United States” after their leaders appeared together at a large-scale military parade in Beijing on September 3.

Trump, writing on Truth Social, sent a furious message to Chinese President Xi Jinping following the parade.

“Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honoured and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice,” Trump wrote.
