Donald Trump makes feelings clear on UK state visit with new message | Royal | News
Donald Trump may have visited the UK two weeks ago, but he has now shared a new message about his visit, which was hosted by the Royal Family. The US President spent two days in Windsor, hosted by King Charles and Queen Camilla, beginning his visit on Tuesday, September 16, and returning home on Thursday, September 18.
On Wednesday, Mr Trump took to his official X account to share carefully selected photos from his trip to the UK, which featured his speech at Windsor Castle while being seated next to Princess Kate, a group photograph with his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, and the King and Queen, and two other snaps of the glittering state banquet staged in his honour. He wrote: “It was great being with King Charles, Queen Camilla, and the Royal Family!”
Mr Trump is the first US President ever to be invited twice to the UK. He first visited in 2019, during his first presidency, when he was welcomed by the late Queen Elizabeth.
Many have hailed the visit by Mr Trump as a success and seen it as a positive step in further bolstering the US-UK relationship.
The US President heaped praise on the royals on his way back to his country following the state visit.
He told reporters, after being asked what he thought was the best part of his visit to the UK, that he liked being with the “wonderful” King, adding: “I don’t know, I think just being with King Charles. He’s a wonderful guy.
“I got to know him very well. I knew him before, but now I know him a little better.
“The artwork. I saw more paintings than any human being has ever seen and statues. But they treated us great. They treated our country great.
“I view that as being really respectful for our country the way they did it because last night was beautiful.
“And we had the biggest people in the world there. That was respect for our country.”
Mr Trump was also asked if the First Lady enjoyed her time with the Princess of Wales after the two women hosted Scouts who received sandwiches made with honey from Kate’s beehive.
He replied: “She did. She thought she was great. I did too. I sat with her last night, Melania went with her today, she thought she was great. A very wonderful person. She went through a lot too – but hopefully that’s all gone.
“William is wonderful. And I knew Charles as a prince and now I know him as a king and he’s doing very well. It was a lovely trip and I thought the press was really nice.”
