Donald Trump on the brink as bombshell poll reveals he’s ‘got it wrong | World | News
A new bombshell poll has revealed growing public support in the US for both Ukraine and NATO. The survey comes amid ongoing White House attempts to negotiate a peace deal with Vladimir Putin.
The latest round of talks ended inconclusively in Moscow on Tuesday, with Trump’s Russian envoy returning to the US empty-handed. The Kremlin confirmed no breakthrough had occurred, but described the talks as “constructive”. Putin is reportedly refusing to make any concessions on his territorial demands and insists on capping the Ukrainian army at 600,000.
The US President described the talks as “reasonably good”, but said the path to peace was still unclear.
Throughout the negotiations, the Trump White House has appeared to take a pro-Russian stance, a suspicion fuelled by the publication of its initial 28-point peace plan.
Critics claimed the plan was no more than a Kremlin wish list compiled by Russia. Moreover, Steve Witkoff, Trump’s ambassador-at-large, was recorded seemingly coaching a senior Putin aide on how to handle his White House boss.
However, Trump’s apparent favouring of Moscow in the talks is increasingly at odds with Americans, both Republicans and Democrats alike.
A recent survey conducted by the Ronald Reagan Institute reveals that a majority of voters from both political parties want Ukraine to prevail over Russia and for the White House to send more arms to Kyiv.
Support for NATO has also surged, following the decision by member states to increase their defence spending.
The poll revealed that 62% of those surveyed support Ukraine, while 68% were in favour of NATO.
“Overall, our Ukraine numbers have shifted across the board toward more support,” Rachel Hoff, policy director for the Ronald Reagan Institute, told reporters on Monday.
“Across other questions that we have in the poll, they perceive Russia as an adversary. They perceive Ukraine as an ally.”
Support for sending more weapons to Kyiv jumped to 64%, while 71% said they didn’t trust Russia to honour any peace agreement it might sign with Ukraine.
