‘Don’t throw away Easter egg packaging’ with ‘little-known’ use
People are being urged not to throw away plastic Easter eggs after the weekend, as the packaging can be repurposed for a little-known reason. For families who receive Easter eggs with plastic cases, the containers can be used for a ‘cute’ purpose.
Parenting content creator @Itsmesaramartinez showcased the idea in a viral TikTok video. The tip is designed specifucally for Easter eggs that come in hard plastic shells, or fillable egg toys, such as Wilko’s £2.50 Fillable Eggs, Tesco’s £1.30 Easter Egg Capsules, and The Work’s £2 Fillable Golden Egg.
As shown in @Itsmesaramartinez’s video, parents don’t need to throw away the eggs after Easter weekend. Instead, the packaging can be repurpised to make several fun games for children.
Sara titled her video: “Four ways to reuse Easter eggs for toddler activiies.” In her caption, she added: “I hate buying things to just throw them away later.”
For her first idea, Sara used multiple Easter eggs to create a sticker matching game. The instructions were straightforward. Simply cut stickers in half, adding one half to each side of the egg, and then mix up the sides so that children can find the pairs.
For the second game, parents need to fill a muffin pan with the eggs and pom poms to create a colour matching game. The caption explained: “Take a muffin pan and fill each section with a different colored pom pom.
“Place Easter eggs of corresponding colors into the pan. Your toddler can then match the colors of the eggs to the pom poms!”
Sara’s third game was cooking themed. The caption explained: “This is great for fine motor skills! Place all the Easter eggs in a bowl. Give your toddler a ladle and a muffin pan. They can scoop the eggs from the bowl and place them into the muffin pan. So easy, and engaging!”
Finally, parents with older toddlers could be interested in the fourth game, which helps with spelling. The caption explained: “Write letters around the center of the egg. On one side, spell out a short word. Let your child spin the egg to create new words.”
The video earned thousands of likes and lots of excited comments from parents. Replying to the post, one viewer said: “Wait I actually have all of these items on hand! Sooo smart!” A second commenter wrote: “Great ideas. I also put alphabet capital and lower case and match.”
Someone else commented: “Genius!!! My guy is only 8 months but I’m saving this for inspiration.” Another parent replied: “Making these asap!!! I wish I had your brain.” A fan agreed: “So fun!”
