British nationals in the United Arab Emirates have been warned about the risks of sharing photos or videos linked to war-related incidents as tensions escalate across the Middle East.
The alert comes after a 60-year-old British tourist was charged under UAE cybercrime laws in Dubai over alleged footage showing missile strikes. Campaign group Detained in Dubai said he was accused of circulating material that could disturb public security, although he reportedly deleted the video when asked and said he had no intention of causing harm.
The British Embassy in the UAE said authorities have issued repeated warnings against photographing or sharing images of incident sites, projectile damage, government buildings or diplomatic missions. It added that violations of local laws could lead to fines, imprisonment or deportation.
According to Detained in Dubai, at least 21 people have faced charges linked to social media posts about recent missile attacks. The UK Foreign Office said it is in contact with local authorities following the detention of the British national.
