The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has released information on benefit payment dates in October. Households receiving benefits and other DWP payments this month shouldn’t experience any disruption.
Money is due to be paid into accounts on the day people usually receive it. That is unless it is a weekend, in which case payments are usually made on the closest working day prior to the weekend. Bank Holidays also affect benefit and state pension payments, but due to a lack of these in October, recipients should expect their payments to be made as usual. However, some benefit recipients will also get some extra support at the end of this month, when winter seasonal benefit schemes reopen.

The exact day you receive your benefit payment usually depends on when you started receiving it. Some benefits, like Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance and Pension Credit, will be paid out every four weeks from the first time you receive the payment, whereas Universal Credit payments are sent out on the same day every month.
Other payments, like State Pension and Maternity Allowance, may allow people to choose if they want to receive payments monthly or weekly, in the case of State Pension. The old State Pension is paid out every four weeks, with the exact day depending on your National Insurance number.
Basic State Pension payment day based on the last two digits of your NI number:

More information on DWP payment dates can be found on the Government website. A few seasonal DWP benefits, including the Warm Home Discount scheme, Cold Weather Payments, and Winter Fuel Payments, will start being paid out at the end of October.
Warm Home Discounts is a £150 discount on your electricity bill applied to your account by your supplier if you are eligible. The money is not paid directly to recipients and should be automatic unless you are on a low income in Scotland, in which case you may need to contact your energy supplier to apply.
Winter Fuel Payments will also start being paid from the beginning of November. The DWP will continue sending out letters this month to households that are eligible, confirming how much they’ll receive as the benefit can be worth £100 up to £300.
From the end of October, Cold Weather Payments will kick in for eligible households in areas where the temperature is forecast or recorded as zero degrees or below for seven consecutive days. This season support provides £25 for each seven-day period that meets this criterion from November 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026.
