Elvis 91st birthday ceremony livestream gets tearful with Lisa Marie tribute | Music | Entertainment
Elvis Presley lived only 42 years, but his incredible legacy endures half a century later.
Every year on January 8, fans from around the world gather on the front lawn of the star’s Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, to mark his birthday in a special proclamation ceremony.
As usual, there’s a giant tiered cake and a few speeches, with the King’s best friend, Jerry Schilling, sharing memories from their meeting in 1955.
Meanwhile, Managing Partner of Elvis Presley Enterprises Joel Weinshanker ended up choking up at the memory of the King’s only child, Lisa Marie Presley, who died suddenly after attending the annual event three years ago.
Tearing up, Joel said: “Obviously, Lisa was here on one of the last days of her life a few years ago. Still a very emotional day for me. And we actually lost a member of our family, Big Jim. Sirius XM Elvis DJ passed away.” Aside from mentioning Elvis movie director Baz Luhrmann’s new concert film EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, which hits cinemas next month, he also teased big plans for the 50th anniversary of the King’s death next year.
Joel added: “It’s going to be an anniversary unlike any other… we’re going to be working diligently over the next year to bring amazing new things to Graceland, to bring amazing things into the world for Elvis.”
