England rugby star Billy Vunipola arrested and tasered twice after Majorca pub incident | Rugby | Sport

England rugby star Billy Vunipola has been arrested following a violent incident at a pub in Majorca over the weekend. The 31-year-old is said to have been tasered twice before he was eventually handcuffed.

According to Spanish news outlet Ultima Hora, police were called to the Epic bar on the Paseo Maritimo in Palma after Vunipola became aggressive during the early hours of the morning and security were unable to get him under control.

The Saracens star was ‘very upset’ and under the influence of alcohol when he became aggressive to members of security and other customers. Vunipola is claimed to have begun confronting ‘anyone who passed him’ and threatened to attack people with ‘bottles and chairs’ after taking off his top.

Upon arrival, local police urged bystanders to evacuate the area and initially hoped that they would be able to talk Vunipola around. However, their efforts were unsuccessful as the England star allegedly continued to ‘challenge the officers’.

Police then tasered Vunipola, though the rugby star was unfazed by the shock due to his size, prompting the taser to be shot at him a second time. Vunipola did not fall to the ground after either of the shots, though they are said to have knocked him off of his balance, which allowed eight officers to eventually handcuff him.

The Saracens No. 8 was then taken to a nearby hospital, Son Espases, where he was sedated and strapped to a bed. Officers and members of security watched over Vunipola whilst the medication took effect to ensure that he did not power his way out of the facilities.

Vunipola eventually calmed down and was allowed time to sleep before being taken to the Via Aleman courts in Palma on Sunday afternoon. He was spotted attending court in the same outfit that he was arrested in, wearing the blue T-shirt which he is claimed to have taken off during the violent incident.

According to The Sun, the Australia-born star has now been released on bail pending an ongoing investigation. The Spanish authorities are yet to release a statement on the alleged incident over the weekend, and court officials are also yet to officially comment on the matter at this stage either.
