Etiquette expert’s one phrase to make guests leave party immediately

As the summer season brings with it a flurry of social events and family gatherings, many Brits may find themselves playing host more often than not.

However, for those whose social energy is running low, being the perfect host can be a daunting task. Fear not, as etiquette expert and national treasure William Hanson is here to help navigate those tricky goodbyes without causing offence.

Known as one of the UK’s leading authorities on manners, William serves as the director of The English Manner, a top-tier etiquette training institute where he imparts wisdom on proper conduct and good manners to individuals, organisations, and even film sets.

In his quest to make us all a bit more refined, the West London-based etiquette guru recently shared some tips on how to gently usher lingering guests out the door in a short TikTok video.

Posing the question, “As a host, how can you get guests to leave at the end of an intimate soiree?” William offers up some clever tactics.

One effective method he suggests is the simple yet direct statement, “Do you have a very busy day tomorrow?” According to William, this line works wonders when guests are failing to take the hint, reports the Mirror.

The well-dressed gent suggests that worn-out hosts should also ask if they “can get anyone anything else” which is a personal favourite of his when he wants to turn in for the night.

In a final cheeky solution for lingering guests, he says hosts must “resort to speaking to them on their level and just turn the lights up very brightly like a nightclub. Job done!”

His quirky videos may be lighthearted, yet they’re grounded in his authoritative knowledge of social graces.

In one such video, he playfully warns his audience, “If you are graced with an invitation to one of my candlelight suppers and I say one of these, please leave immediately.”
