Europe will have to ‘kneel before Russia’ if it wins in Ukraine warns Putin politician | World | News

One of Vladimir Putin’s politicians has issued Europe a chilling warning if Russia wins the war in Ukraine. Andrey Kartapolov, chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee, featured on the Russian state TV show “The Great Game”, alongside the host, Russian-American author, Dimitri Simes.

The Russian TV show comes as US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday (November 26) that the 28-point peace plan proposed last week has been “fine-tuned, with additional input from both sides”. The plan has now reportedly been narrowed to 19 points. Mr Trump’s overseas envoy, Steve Witkoff, will hold talks at the Kremlin next week.

“Today the plan was created by the American side, while it isn’t completely clear who’s responsible for this, because a very reputable American source told me that President Trump himself has not read this plan,” Mr Simes said.

“Also Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio publicly said that this plan is a living document that will be evolving as it’s being discussed with Europeans and Ukrainians.

“Then, of course, Rubio said that it can’t be discussed without Russia either. Do you understand how we’re being reckoned with? Especially since the document that leaked to the press was an American document, about which President Putin spoke and affirmed that it’s largely built upon what was discussed in Anchorage and that it can serve as a basis for negotiations.”

The president “very clearly” underscored that this was “a basis”, Simes added.

Turning to Kartapolov, Simes asked: “General […] how do we deal with this?”

Kartapolov responded: “They clearly understand that they need to get out of this situation, because this vortex will keep pulling them in deeper, and it can suck them in to such an extent that they will have to risk the existence of the US, if things progress to World War 3.

“That’s why they’re dealing with this issue so proactively. It’s not because they love Russia so much, or because they love Ukrainians, whom they couldn’t care less about. They’re afraid for themselves and are worried about their own fate.

“Now, Americans are in quite a difficult situation because they have to convey that there’s no place to go, not only for Zelensky, but for all of the European brethren. They also have nowhere to go, because Europeans fear it like fire that Russia will win and reach the Western borders of Ukraine. What will they do then, poor things?

“They will have to fall on their knees and apologise to us. They’ll have to ask us to sell them energy resources once again. They’ll have to reduce all of their battalion groups that they’ve dragged to their Eastern flank. But most importantly, most of this bureaucracy will have to leave their posts, the European ones, the EU, and national ones too, who dragged their people into this bedlam.”

This warning follows Bloomberg’s publication on Tuesday (November 25) of leaked recordings in which Mr Witkoff was heard advising Putin’s senior aide, Yuri Ushakov, on how best to approach Mr Trump and frame a Ukraine settlement modelled on the recent Gaza ceasefire.
