Ex-Man Utd star Chicharito lands new job despite backlash for controversial comments | Football | Sport

Former Manchester United star Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has landed a new job despite last year claiming women were ‘eradicating masculinity’ in a social media post. Chicharito faced plenty of backlash for the comments, with the Mexican coming out and apologising for any offence he’d caused.

Chicharito hasn’t officially retired from football, but he is yet to sign a new contract with any club following the expiration of his contract with Guadalajara last year. However, ahead of what will be a home World Cup for the striker, Chicharito has bagged himself a new job in punditry.

The 37-year-old will join the FOX Sports punditry team in the United States, with a post from the broadcaster stating: “Bienvenido, Javier Hernández! Mexico’s all-time top goalscorer, Javier “Chicharito” Hernández, is joining the FOX Sports broadcast team for the biggest FIFA World Cup in history.”

He joins some star-studded names on the FOX Sports punditry team, with the likes of Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic already announced on the panel. But the decision has led to backlash from fans, who are still unhappy with his recent comments about women.

@adrianarissta wrote on X: “Do they want an audience or not? Decide.”

@capi_abril added: “Thanks for the heads-up and for not watching the games on Fox.”

@Lalo_thr said: “Yall giving this man a live mic in 2026?”

In a series of posts last July, the ex–Red Devils ace had said: stated: “Women, you are failing, you are eradicating masculinity, making society hypersensitive. Don’t be afraid to be women, to allow yourselves to be led by a man.”

As well as: “You want a man to provide, but for you, cleaning is patriarchal oppression … interesting.”

The remarks landed him a fine from the Mexico Football Federation, with striker Chicharito clarifying his position by saying: “Thank you sincerely to everyone that has supported me, to whom with respect, have shared their perspectives with me and pushed me to be a better person. I deeply regret any confusion or discomfort my recent words have caused; it was never my intention to reduce, hurt, or divide.

“As a father, a man, and a member of this community, my priority is to act with respect, humility, and responsibility. I’m listening, reflecting, and committed to expressing myself with greater clarity and sensitivity, especially with such sensitive topics.”
