F1 LIVE: George Russell explains Monaco fury as Brundle apologises for grid walk fiasco | F1 | Sport
Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has blamed a faulty weather radar for the tyre-choice mishap that may have cost Fernando Alonso the Monaco Grand Prix.
Despite rain already making sections of the track wet, Alonso was called in for fresh dry-weather tyres in the closing stages of the race. Increased rainfall meant he had to pit again a matter of minutes later for intermediates, effectively ruining his chances of catching eventual winner Max Verstappen.
“We thought it was only a short shower, our radar was not very good because we did not expect any actually,” Krack told F1TV. “And then it came and it came much, much more than we were anticipating.
“As soon as Fernando had left it started to come really heavy here and we had to come in unfortunately. But it wasn’t a gamble, it was just from the decision making and it was not correct.”
