FA Cup fourth round draw in full as Arsenal and Chelsea handed winnable ties | Football | Sport

The fourth round draw of the FA Cup has been completed with some intriguing ties confirmed for the next round of the competition in mid-February. The weekend’s third-round action threw up a major surprise with holders Crystal Palace dumped out by non-league Macclesfield, while Wrexham dumped out Premier League side Nottingham Forest on penalties.

Sixth-tier Macclesfield’s reward for their historic win is another top-flight opponent – Brentford. While Wrexham host fellow Championship outfit Ipswich Town at the Racecourse Ground. Liverpool have not booked their spot in the next phase and must first beat Barnsley at Anfield tonight. If the Reds are victorious, they will host Brighton, who defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

After beating Championship strugglers Portsmouth, record 14-time FA Cup winners Arsenal host Wigan Athletic of League One. While new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior will take the Blues back to his old club, Hull City. Manchester City could host Gary Neville‘s Salford City having beaten the same team 8-0 in round three 12 months ago. The League Two side must first get past Swindon Town, who play in the same division, on January 20.

Arsenal, 14-time winners of the FA Cup who have not won a major trophy since their 2020 success in this competition, will be heavily fancied to progress against a Wigan side sat 15th in League One at present. While Chelsea will also see their trip to Hull as winnable despite the Tigers sitting seventh in the Championship table.

Six Premier League clubs will travel to lower-league opposition including Brentford, who travel to Macclesfield. The non-league club’s manager John Rooney is the brother of Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney. And he told TNT Sports: “It’s another Premier League side, another top side. But we saw what happened at our place on Saturday.

“When they come, will they like the 3G pitch? Every little advantage we can take, we’ll grab it with both hands.”
