Fans hail thriller on Film4 tonight ‘favourite ever movie’ with all-star cast | Films | Entertainment

Tonight, Film 4 is set to air a crime thriller brimming with ‘mystery’ and ‘incredible performances’, featuring an ensemble cast.

Bad Times at The El Royale, released in 2018, boasts a star-studded line-up including Jeff Bridges, Cynthia Erivo, Dakota Johnson, Jon Hamm, Cailee Spaeny, Lewis Pullman, and Chris Hemsworth.

The plot revolves around six strangers and an employee at the El Royale, a hotel straddling the California–Nevada border, whose secrets intertwine on a fateful night in the late 1960s.

The hotel transforms into a grim battleground when seven strangers – a cleric, a soul singer, a travelling salesman, two sisters, the manager, and the enigmatic Billy Lee – converge for one last chance at redemption before everything spirals out of control.

The film, which premiered six years ago, has garnered critical praise and was nominated for five awards at the 45th Saturn Awards, including Best Writing for Goddard, Best Actor for Bridges, Best Supporting Actor for Pullman, Best Supporting Actress for Erivo, and clinched the award for Best Thriller Film.

On Rotten Tomatoes, a five-star review praised: “Got one of my favourites. Setting, costumes, and atmosphere, whole cinematography is amazing. I also really liked the story with its many characters and their mysterious connections.”

Another equally impressed viewer gave it five stars, saying: “I guess this movie totally underrated because no one talks about it from every direction. This is my favourite movie and I review it often. For me El-Royal is thought-provoking story about role of fate and choice. It’s gripping from the start to the end. A third added: “This is one of those perfect films. Amazing cinematography, incredible, surprising plot, amazing acting from a star-filled cast, and an incredible setting. It’s one of the few times that Hemsworth plays an evil character and Jeff Bridges turns in his usual jaw-dropping performance- pointedly out-acting, and out-macho-ing Hemsworth. It’s magic to see. Constant surprises. Weird. A stunning period piece that makes use of countless tropes from the era (1969).”

Another viewer posted: “Incredible performances. Chris Hemsworth is an amazing actor. I hope we get to see more of him in parts like this one. The rest of the cast is great too. Jeff Bridges, John Hamm, Dakota Johnson, all of them. A must-watch!”.

A separate five-star review said: “I’ve been interested in this movie before and finally watched it. American neo-noir thriller. Don’t just look at the surface of everything, dismantling the inner world is the most enjoyable part of this movie. “The predicament in the secret room forced everyone to show their true colors of humanity. And added various political, religious, cultural and other elements.
